2021 Could Do Better (A Lot Better)

As much as we love Lauv, we couldn’t help but notice that the only thing 2021-ish about his song ‘2021’ is the title. Don’t get us wrong, there is much promise in the song especially when you consider the vibes. The slow pace of the song surely can put you in the mood, you’ll even love it to an extent. But at the end of the conversation, it will linger in your mind and you heard it, you heard Travis Scott in this song, you heard Bazzi, the only person you didn’t hear is Lauv. Again, don’t get us wrong. We are all for change and embracing change, sure, but if you listen to Lauv songs just like us, you will be looking for his true authenticity too. This song is different taste for Lauv fans that’s for sure but if he’s trying out things and experimenting, no one could stop him. We still think this track is fire. Although, this bonfire could’ve replaced the sun.

Vocals, vocals, vocals. Hmm… Autotune is supposed to make someone’s vocals shine. How come it did not? Us fans know the answer… and although we understand it was an artistic choice and the vigor of a young artist still trying to solidify his sound, we all know his voice has always been just fine just as it is.

The lyrics on the other hand are okay but it was a rough connection that he made about 2021 and the rest of the lyrics. Fine, there were lyrics about things to do for 2021 (like running? Having fun?) but if you write a song for someone you’ve been with for a while, why, you should’ve been having fun already.

The track is not bad… for real! It really is promising and could’ve been better with the lyrics being different and without the autotune and common production. We were looking for the artistry of Lauv but maybe he’s onto something new. All is well… we will still listen to it tho. Cheers to 2021!
